Yes, I can offer sessions to you via Zoom. Many people choose to access therapy online and it is as effective as attending an in person session. You just need to make sure you have a stable internet connection, a device with a camera and a space where you can be undisturbed during our time together.
This varies from person to person as we are all unique and our concerns are different. Clinical Hypnotherapy is typically a fast acting treatment and many people have between eight and twelve sessions, seeing great progress in that time. However, this is something we review regularly and the decision is in your hands.
If you are wanting to stop smoking/vaping, we would do this over two sessions. In the first session, we discuss your reasons for smoking and for stopping. We set a quit-date (the next session), and I provide you with a relaxing hypnosis audio to listen to reduce stress. In the second session, I use a specific hypnosis to stop smoking, and you then follow up our sessions by listening to the hypnosis audio for four to six weeks.
For some people who are wanting to work on a phobia, three sessions are sufficient. If you have other concerns in your life as well as the phobia, we may have more sessions.
Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic technique that uses guided relaxation and focused attention to achieve a heightened state of awareness, often referred to as a trance. During this state, the mind is more receptive to positive suggestions, allowing us to work together to address and overcome various challenges.
Hypnosis is a really relaxing experience where you will sit or lie down and make yourself comfortable and then I guide you through a calming visualisation process. People experience trance differently; some people zone out and other people really focus in on the words. But no matter how you experience it, it is helpful to reprogram our minds.
Hypnotherapy can be effective for a wide range of issues, including stress, anxiety, OCD, phobias, smoking cessation, weight management, pain management and more. It's a versatile and powerful tool for addressing both physical and psychological challenges. You can read about how hypnosis can help different concerns and conditions on my website under the conditions menu.
Many people ask this, mainly because hypnosis is not understood in mainstream society. Hypnotic trance is a very natural state - have you ever zoned out whilst watching television, or travelled somewhere and then can't remember the details of the journey? If so, you have been in trance. We achieve hypnosis in the sessions by gentle and calming relaxation which slows down your breathing, physical movements and your mind. In this ultra relaxed state we can then give you positive, kind. suggestions that help to change your ways of thinking and behaving.
You also receive a hypnotherapy audio to listen to between our sessions - the more we are hypnotised, the more easily we go into trance so you can think of listening to the audio during the week as topping up your ability to be hypnotised.
This is a legitimate concern and one people have after watching stage/comedy hypnosis. Believe it or not, the people who do wacky things if hypnotised on stage are happy to do those things. You cannot be forced to do anything against your will under hypnosis. And you can attend sessions safe in the knowledge that in hypnotherapy the only thing we want to achieve is more relaxation, confidence, self-esteem and positivity in your life!
Given that everyone is unique, this means everyone's treatment should also be unique. Integrative different types of therapy into sessions ensures that you get a personalised approach and support. I bring in theory and techniques from a range of therapies including Counselling, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Transactional Analysis, Coaching, Emotional Freedom Technique and Solution Focused Brief Therapy. I will always explain new concepts and you can make your own evaluation if they are helpful for you.
Emotional Freedom Technique is known as Tapping because we tap on specific acupressure points on the body whilst talking about concerns you have. This is based on meridian points from Traditional Chinese Medicine which focuses on the transfer of Qi (energy) around the body. The theory is that by tapping on these points, we can release blocked energy and this reduces anxiety, stress and more. However I would also say that it also works due to positive affirmations used in sessions and through talking and distracting the mind.
